Over the last 40 years magpie numbers have increased by 94% and crows by 85%. Corvids are generalist feeders but it’s well known they kill the eggs
and nestlings of – ‘ALL our Songbirds!’

Gamekeepers farmers farm workers are a fraction in number of what they were 100 years ago so corvids (Crow family) have not and are not being controlled. Predation killing by them ‘Corvids’ has already been proved to have a serious impact on upland ground-nesting birds and waders but there has never been a fully experimental study on Songbirds Garden Birds predation numbers carried out in Britain.

“The effect this is having on songbirds has never been documented scientifically before but Skylark numbers have fallen by 65% Tree Sparrows by 93% House Sparrows by 90% and Corn Buntings down 90%.” ‘This is without including all the other Songbirds and their own declining numbers.’

Cont: Habitat loss is always blamed together with modern farming practices.
But certainly those with shooting interests have done much to improve the countryside with margins
strips and miles of hedgerows planted.

Predation is always ignored. Corvids are not the only predators – Cats grey squirrels and sparrow-hawks are also all at record levels numbers.

Research is urgently needed. The cost of the two year-study will be £88,000. Louise Baltesz an SBS member who is helping with fundraising adds: ‘Surely everyone would prefer to have songbirds in their gardens rather than magpies and crows.

‘Garden Songbirds eating all your garden insect bugs & pests helping with our own biodiversity.’

“Don’t underestimate the problem in the UK – we may end up without a dawn chorus.”

We should all give our support. ‘Check their website’: http://www.songbird-survival.org.uk/make_adonation.html

We have been really pleased when Peter managed to deal with his preliminary research because of the ideas he obtained from your web pages. It’s not at all simplistic to just be giving away information and facts which often most people have been selling. So we discover we have got the writer to give thanks to because of that. Most of the explanations you have made, the easy blog menu, the friendships you give support to foster – it is mostly impressive, and it’s aiding our son and our family believe that the content is cool, and that is especially pressing. Thank you for the whole thing!
