Humans Are – ‘Wiping Out Animal Life.’ – “The Human Race Is On Course To Wipe Out Two-Thirds Of Animal And Plant Life On Earth.” Experts Have Said.

Nearly half of the world’s surface has been transformed and some 50 ‘Dead Zones’ have been created in which almost all aquatic life has been killed by pollution. 1999 August 4th. By Pravin Char –

Mankind has destroyed species at nearly 1,000 times the natural rate of evolution, scientists at the International Botanic Congress in Missouri were told.

“If the current trend continues the majority of animal and plant species will be wiped out within 100 years – A catastrophe equalled only by the demise of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.”

We are predicting the extinction of most of the bird, butterfly and plant species by the end of the next century – said Dr Peter Raven president of the congress.

He added that a major problem was that most species have not been identified, so researchers will not be able to determine which are being lost.

Dr Raven said only 1.6million species out of nearly ten million on the planet had been scientifically recognized.

Jane Lubchenco professor of zoology at Oregon State University presented findings to the congress that revealed – ‘a disturbing trend in the Earth’s ability to maintain the quality of human life.’

She said humans had more than doubled the amount of nitrogen in the environment with excessive fertiliser use and the burning of fossil fuels.

1998Was the planet’s hottest year on record. – As human activities increased the amount of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases were ever more abundant in the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, ministers have been accused of helping to destroy wildlife by accepting big EU subsides while ignoring European conservation laws.

A survey by the Worldwide Fund for Nature claimed to have found ‘gross inadequacies’ between EU funds used for conservation and those used to subsidise large-scale agriculture and environmentally-damaging infrastructure projects.

‘Dead, Dying or Doomed’ – “Animals Wiped Out as Humans Take Over the Planet.” 2008 May 16 Metro: By Miles Erwin.

Mankind today stands accused of wiping out more than a quarter of animal populations on the planet in the past 35 years.

As the number of humans has grown from 4billion to 6.5billion, the spread of other creatures has declined by 27 per cent.
This is according to a disturbing new report.

Mammals such as the hippopotamus minus 96%, chimpanzees and polar bears – 55%, Sea creatures such as the swordfish and hammer-head shark – 78%, and freshwater species such as river dolphins face extinction because of loss of habitat and hunting.

“The decline will only get worse because of climate change brought on by human activity, campaigners warn.”

The figures come from a study of 4,000 species by conservation charity WWF.

‘Its Living Planet Index shows the number of populations of land-based species has fallen by 25% between 1970 and 2005.

“The biggest drop was among tropical land species which tumbled by 55%.”

The potential loss of animals spells bad news for humans said the WWF Director-general James Leape added: ‘Reduced biodiversity means millions of people face a future where food supplies are more vulnerable to pests, disease.’

Biodiversity minister Joan Ruddock said: ‘Supporting wildlife is critical to all our futures.’

  6. Throughout this awesome design of things you actually get an A just for effort and hard work. Where you actually misplaced everybody ended up being on the details. You know, they say, the devil is in the details… And it could not be more correct right here. Having said that, permit me inform you precisely what did work. Your text can be incredibly convincing and this is probably why I am making an effort in order to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, although I can easily see the leaps in reasoning you come up with, I am definitely not sure of exactly how you appear to connect the points which inturn help to make the conclusion. For the moment I shall subscribe to your issue but hope in the future you actually link the facts much better.
